Mother of Pearl Diamond Tapa & Tahitian Pearl Earrings

These earrings feature silvery, baroque round, 9mm Tahitian pearls set off by a stunning set of hand-carved mother of pearl.
The diamond-shaped shell pieces are made by an artisan on Tahiti and etched with an ancient Samoan tapa design. Tapa is a traditional cloth made from tree bark that's often elaborately decorated and had great social importance historically throughout the South Pacific.
The earrings dangle a little over 2 1/2 inches from 20/14 gold filled earwires. The set displays the vast variety of Tahitian pearl and mother of pearl hues, and the pair is unique.
Gold filled has a 14K gold layer 5 to 10 times thicker than gold plated and is a good, affordable alternative to 14K gold. A solid layer of 14K gold is mechanically bonded with the base metal interior and makes up 1/20th the metal weight. It should not tarnish and is expected to last a lifetime.
