Mother of Pearl Diamond Tapa Earrings

These Tahitian mother of pearl earrings are hand-carved by an artisan on Tahiti into an ancient Samoan tapa design. Tapa is a traditional cloth made from tree bark that's often elaborately decorated and had great social importance historically throughout the South Pacific.
The earrings dangle 2 1/2 inches from the top of hand forged 20/14 gold filled ear wires to the bottom of the mother of pearl.
Each set displays the vast variety of Tahitian pearl and mother of pearl hues and each piece is unique.
Gold filled has a 14K gold layer 5 to 10 times thicker than gold plated and is a good, affordable alternative to 14K gold. A solid layer of 14K gold is mechanically bonded with the base metal interior and makes up 1/20th the metal weight. It should not tarnish and is expected to last a lifetime.
